Australian Fashion Council (AFC)

February 7th, 2009 Posted in 123triad

The Australian Fashion Council (AFC) is an initiative of the Council of Textiles and Fashion Industries Australia (TFIA), the peak employer body for the Australian textile, clothing and footwear industry. The AFC is Australia’s principle representative organisation for the Australian fashion industry, providing a central hub of information, advice and assistance for fashion designers, retailers, service providers, manufacturers, students and government agencies alike.

Over the last ten years the Australian fashion design industry has grown significantly in international stature and reputation, and continues to prove itself as an innovative industry with a promising future. At the same time however, the reduction of tariffs and corresponding increase in competition from imports, the high cost of manufacturing on-shore and the loss of key technical skills, in addition to our distance from key international markets, has meant that succeeding in the fashion industry has never been more difficult than it is today. In order to provide a national, industry-lead response to these issues, as well as to recognise the growing importance of fashion design to the future of our TCF industry, the TFIA established the AFC in January 2006.
